Bangkok,
Take 1
Who's this guy?
This is Crayon Shinchan, who we first encountered in the marketplace in Bangkok. Click here to read a bit more.
Bangkok is an amazing city. Vendors flash fry food in pushcarts on the street while talking on their cell phones. The weekend market is filled with thousands of people and thousands of items, ranging from handcrafts to fake Rolexes to live animals. Everywhere you go, the people are friendly, the shopping is wonderful and the food is even better.

Everyone drives a car or a motorcycle (or lets someone else drive them), contributing to some of the world's worst traffic. We'd heard stories about it, and were pleasantly surprised by our first day out -- it was worse than anything we'd seen before, but nothing like we'd feared.

Thai coinWe told Deena's friend Meow that we were pleasantly surprised, and she reminded us that the city was empty of commuters and students on Sundays. The real fun would come on Monday.

She was right.

We spent one week in Bangkok before heading south to Phuket and Phi Phi Island for some time away from the traffic.

Chatuchak (Weekend Market)
The market is very difficult to describe. We arrived in Bangkok on Saturday night and hit the market on Sunday morning, jumping headfirst into the mad pace of Bangkok.

The Grand Palace
This was the first touristy place we went. As a result, we each took a roll or two of the place. We've picked out the best ones for you to see.

Wat Pho
The main Buddhist temple in Bangkok. Very tranquil and beautiful. Geoff and Deena even had their fortunes told by the famous Mr. Huang.

Chao Phrao River
We took a daytrip down the river and canals. The water was choppy, Kirsten was sick and the guide wanted us to go to the government tourist shop. But it was still fun!
